Description
We offer a natural sage hydrolate for drinks, obtained from the species Salvia Sclarea. In international practice, the product bears the name Clary Sage Natural Hydrolat. The scent unfolds with medium strength, brings an herbal direction and leaves a bitter, spicy finish in the overall olfactory impression. Its basis originates in the flowering stalk, where the large capitate trichomes form and accumulate linalyl acetate together with sclareol in their cavity. On the calyx of the flowers of this species, capitate glandular trichomes develop together with peltate ones, which cover its entire inflorescence. Classification places the plant in the Lamiaceae family, whose members gather their scent in the aerial part, far from the root and the underground organs. The plantations grow in Bulgaria and provide the flowering aerial mass for the extraction. The natural method of cultivation eliminates synthetic fertilizers, and agents against pests are excluded, which is why the distillate remains free of any foreign impurities. The refined aroma relies on steam distillation, during which mainly the polar oxygenated volatile compounds of the flowering stalk from the plantations pass into the water. The tone ranges from colorless to slightly yellowish, and darker shades do not appear. The yellowish tint reveals a small amount of coloring substances in the distillate. The liquid appears clear and retains its homogeneity without separated particles. The composition includes only natural ingredients and rejects preservatives and colorants. Descriptions of the flowering stalk list linalyl acetate, linalool and caryophyllene first, which take the leading place among the main volatile constituents of the entire raw material. The bitter side comes forward at the beginning, while the spicy one appears after it. The distillate remains fully connected with the aerial mass, from which its scent originates.
Application
Sage stalk hydrolate obtained by steam distillation is incorporated into drinks for its warm herbal note. The liquid is added to summer cocktails with a refreshing effect, to iced teas with an herbal delight and to flavored waters with a light taste. It is used in detox mixes with a clean taste, in vitamin-rich smoothies and in energizing fresh juices with an herbal nuance. It is applied in rejuvenating formulas with an herbal taste, in carbonated mixes with a light accent and in spicy non-alcoholic recipes. It finds application in homemade lemonades, in water mixes with herbal additions, as well as in summer blends with a citrus note. It is suitable for functional formulas with a calming effect, for cooling sports mixes and for vitamin-rich juices with an herbal flavor. It is also used in regenerating recovery mixes, in aromatic shots with a warm finish, as well as in tea latte recipes, giving every recipe a balanced herbal finish.
